Five months after its debut in the USA, the exhibition opens its second edition at HD Contemporary Art Gallery on October 12.

PARIS. Beauty is Art, an exhibition that presents the work of makeup artists, nail artists and hair artists as contemporary art, will open its second edition in Paris on Monday, October 12, 2026. The exhibition will take place at HD Contemporary Art Gallery, 45 Rue Vivienne, in the 2nd arrondissement. It is the project's first edition outside the United States.

A Project Launched in Florida

The first edition opened on May 9, 2026, in Tampa, Florida, with the work of eleven artists. The exhibition was accompanied by a catalog and received large coverage in the press.

The Paris edition is significantly larger. More than 25 artists from different countries take part, and the format has been extended to three separate disciplines: Makeup Art, Nail Art and Hair Art.

The Idea Behind the Exhibition

According to the organizers, the beauty industry has no established way to recognize a finished piece of work as an artwork. A completed look is usually seen by the client, posted online or evaluated at a competition, and within a few days it is replaced by the next one.

The organizers point out that such work has the same components as other forms of visual art: an author, a concept, materials and form. Beauty is Art was created to give this work an institutional setting in which it is presented and credited in the same way as photography or painting.

How the Exhibition Works

Works are chosen through curatorial selection. The selected pieces are printed in large format, mounted for gallery display and shown with an exhibition label that carries the name of the artist and the title of the work. The exhibition is noncommercial, and the works are not offered for sale.

Artists from any country may submit a photograph of their artwork. If the work meets the selection criteria and is approved, the organizers handle printing, mounting and installation in the gallery. Artists may also receive a personal invitation on the strength of outstanding work. This model has allowed the project to bring together participants from several countries in a single exhibition.

The Participants

Many of the artists in the Paris edition are established figures in the professional beauty field. Among them are winners of international competitions, competition judges and educators, as well as artists who have worked backstage at Fashion Weeks.

Their backgrounds demonstrate the range of professional experience represented within the exhibition. Some participants have built their reputations through competitions, while others have contributed to education, judging or major fashion events.

The selection includes a work recognized by Guinness World Records and works previously shown at New York Fashion Week. Some participants have pieces held in the permanent collection of the Shanghai World Nail Art Museum. The Hair Art section includes artists who were among the top five finalists of the #ONESHOT Hair Awards.

The inclusion of artists with experience across competitions, education, fashion and international collections further connects the exhibition with the broader professional beauty community. It presents beauty artistry as a field that can involve specialized knowledge, technical skill, creative direction and professional recognition.

Among the participants are Nail Artwork by Kateryna Tsabilieva and Trainer Yuliia Kovalchuk, representing the nail artistry community within the wider exhibition format.

The presence of nail artists alongside makeup and hair artists also reinforces the project's expanded approach. Each discipline brings its own visual language and technical process, allowing visitors to encounter different forms of beauty artistry within the same gallery environment.

Next Steps

The organizers describe the long term goal of Beauty is Art as securing a place for beauty artists in contemporary art and introducing them to an international art audience as independent artists. The Paris edition is the second step in that plan, following the opening exhibition in the United States.
