The Weeknd’s Film Debut: ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’ Set to Hit Theaters Soon
The highly anticipated film, ‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’, marks The Weeknd’s debut as a lead actor, scheduled to be released nationwide on May 16. In preparation for this milestone, The Weeknd, along with director Trey Shults and co-star Jenna Ortega, conducted an interview with Fandango on April 24.
Film and Album Creation Process
Interestingly, The Weeknd shared that the film was created before the accompanying album was developed. “The film came first. The album didn’t exist. We were scoring and writing music to picture,” he explained. He elaborated on how the project was inspired by a real-life incident he envisioned as a film from the start.
Shults noted that their collaboration was sparked by The Weeknd’s original idea, which they further developed by exchanging personal experiences. “We’re both cinephiles that have this like-minded taste,” Shults remarked, highlighting how their creative dialogue fostered a unique cinematic universe influenced by iconic films.
Film Synopsis and Upcoming Releases
‘Hurry Up Tomorrow’ features The Weeknd portraying a fictionalized version of himself as a pop star, with Jenna Ortega playing his love interest and Barry Keoghan rounding out the cast. The film promises to take audiences through a psychological journey exploring the depths of the protagonist’s soul.
As part of the promotional efforts, The Weeknd has released a music video for “I Can’t Wait to Get There,” which includes scenes from the film, enticing fans to purchase tickets. Notably, select audiences in specific locations will have the chance to screen the film two days early, on May 14.
