Mariana Gomez is a dynamic artist, entrepreneur, and Emmy-winning storyteller whose life story is a testament to perseverance, creativity, and resilience. Born in Metepec, Mexico, and raised in Querétaro, she has overcome significant challenges to become an internationally recognized artist and a two-time Southeast Emmy® Award winner. Along the way, she has not only transformed her own life but also made a lasting impact through her art and storytelling.
From a young age, Mariana was no stranger to adversity. Growing up alongside her brother, who was diagnosed with autism, she witnessed firsthand the challenges of navigating a world that often lacked awareness and understanding of neurodiversity. In addition, Mariana endured years of bullying, and abusive relationships. The absence of mental health resources in her community made it difficult to address her struggles. However, these early experiences laid the foundation for her passion for art as a healing tool, using her creative process to cope with and understand the world around her.
Mariana’s determination was evident early on. At 18, she made the bold decision to leave her home in Mexico to pursue her dreams in the United States, despite facing political controversy at the time. Her journey to success wasn’t easy, but it was marked by resilience. She attended the prestigious Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Film & Television, with a minor in Acting for the Camera. By the time she was 21, Mariana had already made a name for herself in the entertainment industry, winning two Southeast Emmy® Awards from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS)—one for a topical documentary and another for a short film. These accolades cemented her as a rising star in film and television, earning her recognition as a talented writer, producer, and actor.
Her professional success also played a role in her ability to continue working in the U.S. As an artist with international recognition, Mariana was able to secure a visa that allowed her to further her career. However, just as she was gaining momentum, the COVID-19 pandemic and industry-wide slowdowns made opportunities scarce. With production delays and changing dynamics in entertainment, she faced uncertainty in finding consistent work in her field.
Determined to maintain financial stability and stay creative, Mariana turned to her artistic roots. In 2024, she founded her own business, MART (Mar makes Art), specializing in high-end, handmade, one-of-a-kind pieces such as candy tables, domino sets, coasters, and custom painted sneakers. Inspired by her Mexican heritage and love for color and nostalgia, her art pieces reflect the joy, emotion, and connection that have defined her personal journey. Each piece tells a unique story, evoking cherished memories and deep emotions for her clients.
In addition to her art business, Mariana continues to pursue her passion for film and television. Her experience of founding and growing a business while also navigating the entertainment industry’s challenges has only further fueled her entrepreneurial spirit. Despite the obstacles she has faced, Mariana’s unwavering commitment to her craft and her ability to pivot creatively have been defining characteristics of her success. She remains active in writing, acting, and exploring new opportunities in the film industry while growing her art business.
Her success story is not just about accolades and awards but also about the strength to overcome adversity. Through her journey, she has learned to embrace failure as a stepping stone toward growth, turning each challenge into an opportunity. Mariana’s resilience has made her not just a talented artist and Emmy winner but a role model for others who face their own battles. She demonstrates that it is possible to rise from hardship and create something meaningful from personal struggles.
Fluent in four languages—Spanish, English, German, and French—Mariana brings a multicultural perspective to her work, bridging cultures and connecting with audiences across the globe. This global reach, combined with her exceptional talent and entrepreneurial drive, ensures that her impact continues to grow.
Mariana’s story resonates with anyone who has faced hardship, fought for their dreams, or had to reinvent themselves in the face of adversity. It is a narrative of hope and perseverance, showing that success is not just about where you start, but the courage and creativity you bring to your journey.
