Post Animal: A Revival in Chicago’s Psych-Rock Scene
Reunion and New Album
The Chicago-based psych-rock band Post Animal is experiencing a significant resurgence. Following the departure of Joe Keery, known for his role in *Stranger Things*, in 2017 to focus on his acting career and launch his solo project, Djo, the band has reunited with him for their upcoming fifth studio album titled IRON, which is set for release on July 25, 2024.
The lead single, “Last Goodbye,” showcases a refined and polished version of the breezy psychedelia reminiscent of the band’s earlier works, signaling an exciting evolution in their sound.
On Tour with Djo
This summer, Post Animal is not just releasing new music; they are also on the road alongside Joe Keery as opening acts for Djo’s 2025 world tour, titled Back on You.
Live Performances and Audience Engagement
Recently, the band took to the stage in Brooklyn for a series of performances, where they debuted new tracks, engaged in lively banter with the audience, and delivered high-energy sets despite facing some challenges from the heat, which caused a few attendees to faint.
Looking Ahead
As the band anticipates more performances across Europe this summer, they reflect on their journey. The FADER had an opportunity to connect with the members—Dalton Allison, Jake Hirshland, Javier Reyes, Wesley Toledo, and Matt Williams—to discuss their concert experiences, rider essentials, favorite songs to play live, and simple pleasures like the joy of receiving new socks.
