PinkPantheress Unveils New Mixtape ‘Fancy That’

Out May 9, 2024, via Parlophone and Warner Records

About the Release

PinkPantheress, the British singer-songwriter known for her unique blend of experimental pop and club sounds, has launched her highly anticipated nine-track mixtape, Fancy That. This marks her first full-length project since the success of her debut, To Hell With It, released in 2021.

A Necessary Break

The mixtape’s release follows a brief hiatus from the public eye, during which PinkPantheress prioritized her physical and mental well-being. In August 2023, she made the difficult decision to cancel her remaining tour dates, including key performances with notable artists like Olivia Rodrigo and Coldplay. “It is with the heaviest heart that I will not be able to continue with the rest of my live shows this year,” she stated at the time, expressing her need to focus on her health.

Reflections on Self-Care

Reflecting on her break, PinkPantheress emphasized the importance of taking the necessary time to address personal challenges. “Really the least of my concerns was the money,” she shared during an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music. “There was something that I needed to address and so I had to leave… But obviously, what goes around comes around, and I’ll be back again.”

Creative Growth and New Sound

This period of introspection ultimately influenced the creation of Fancy That, allowing the artist to delve deeper into her musical evolution. The mixtape showcases a more refined direction, fusing her established sound with fresh experimental elements. This transformation was symbolized by her decision to cut her hair impulsively during this time.

Recent Singles and Chart Performance

Prior to the mixtape’s launch, PinkPantheress released the singles “Stateside” and “Tonight.” The latter, which includes a sample from Panic! At The Disco’s track “Do You Know What I’m Seeing?”, quickly gained traction, achieving No. 5 on the Hot Dance/Pop Songs chart and peaking at No. 25 on Bubbling Under Hot 100. During a performance at H&M’s inaugural music festival in Los Angeles, she humorously remarked about how fellow artist Doechii had impressed her with her dance skills backstage.
