Paul Feig Open to a Third Installment of the Simple Favor Series
Paul Feig, the acclaimed director known for his work on the whimsical crime-drama “A Simple Favor,” has revealed his enthusiasm for a possible third film in the franchise, following the release of its recent sequel, “Another Simple Favor.”
Director’s Vision for a Threequel
In a recent interview with People, Feig expressed his desire to continue the story of Anna Kendrick’s character, Stephanie, a mommy vlogger, and Blake Lively’s enigmatic Emily Nelson, a con artist with a complex background. Feig stated, “I definitely know where I want it to go. We’ll see if everybody wants to do a third one. It was too much fun — I would love to get back together with this group and these characters and send them on an even weirder, international adventure, if possible.”
Setting and Plot Development
The sequel takes audiences from the small-town Connecticut backdrop of the original to the striking landscapes of Capri, Italy. In “Another Simple Favor,” viewers find Emily preparing for her wedding after her release from prison, with Stephanie reluctantly stepping into the role of maid of honor. However, Stephanie becomes increasingly suspicious, theorizing that Emily’s true intentions involve a complex revenge scheme.
Expanding Horizons in Future Films
Feig believes that a potential third film should broaden its geographical scope. He remarked, “I think we need to take them out into the world even more.” This suggestion aligns with the evolving themes of the franchise, emphasizing a more adventurous narrative.
Insights on Sequels from Feig
Feig has historically been cautious about sequels, previously resisting the idea of a follow-up to his hit film “Bridesmaids.” In a discussion at the Contenders Television panel, he articulated the challenges associated with sequels, noting how audiences have become wary due to unsatisfactory follow-ups. He elaborated, “Sequels are hard … Audiences, I think, got burned by a lot of sequels. And so the big question for an audience is always, ‘Why do I need to see this?’ And so you’ve really got to be able to answer that question.”
However, he found a strong narrative foundation for “Another Simple Favor,” responding to concerns about Emily’s prison release with confidence. He humorously pointed out, “Come on – Marvel brings people back from the dead. We can get somebody out of prison!”
Current Availability
