Ozzy Osbourne to Perform from a Throne at Black Sabbath’s Final Concert
Ozzy Osbourne has announced that he will be performing from a throne—potentially even a flying one—during what is being promoted as the final performance of Black Sabbath. This momentous event is scheduled for July 5 at Villa Park in Birmingham, England, as part of the aptly titled “Back to the Beginning” show.
A Fond Farewell
The iconic frontman, who has faced significant health challenges in recent years including neck and spinal injuries as well as Parkinson’s disease, will adapt his performance style to accommodate these issues. At 76 years old, Osbourne is determined to make this farewell concert a memorable occasion.
Exciting Performative Elements
In an interview with Riff X’s Metal XS, Zakk Wylde, Osbourne’s long-time collaborator and guitarist, hinted at some thrilling potential elements of the concert. “With Oz and his throne that just flies over the stadium or whatever, [where he] shoots out buckets of water and does everything like that,” he said, indicating that the singer’s presence could be quite dynamic during the show.
Wylde also expressed hope that a successful concert might encourage Osbourne to consider going on tour again, stating, “If Oz has a great time…let’s do it again.” He recalled a moment when Osbourne performed “Mama, I’m Coming Home” while seated, which reaffirmed the singer’s enduring talent and passion.
Star-Studded Lineup
While Ozzy Osbourne will not perform a full set, his appearance promises to enthrall metal enthusiasts. The concert is set to feature performances from Black Sabbath in addition to celebrated bands like Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, and many others, including Pantera, Lamb of God, Mastodon, Alice in Chains, and Halestorm. This diverse lineup showcases the depth of the metal genre and underscores Osbourne’s lasting influence on the music scene.
Osbourne’s Current Status
In a recent episode of his SiriusXM show, “Ozzy Speaks,” Osbourne clarified his role at the event, stating, “I am doing little bits and pieces with them.” He emphasized his focus on performing in ways that feel comfortable for him, as he continues to navigate his health challenges. “I am trying to get back on my feet,” he shared, noting that while he has to balance himself more carefully than before, he remains active and engaged in creative projects.
