Neil Young Returns to the Stage for Autism Speaks Concert
On April 26, Neil Young made a highly anticipated live performance at the Autism Speaks Light Up The Blues 7 concert held in the iconic Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. This event underscores his continued commitment to important social causes.
Surprises and New Material
During his performance, Young delighted attendees by debuting a new song titled “Let’s Roll Again,” marking a significant addition to his discography. Additionally, he resurrected the 18-minute track “Ordinary People” for the first time in 36 years. Originally left off the final tracklist of his 1989 album, Freedom, it was later included in Chrome Dreams II in 2007.
Collaboration with Stephen Stills
A highlight of the evening was Young’s collaboration with longtime friend and fellow musician Stephen Stills. The duo performed iconic songs such as Buffalo Springfield’s “For What It’s Worth,” alongside renditions of “Human Highway” and “Rockin’ in the Free World.” Stills was also joined by Nathaniel Rateliff for a performance of “Colorado,” a song originally released by Stills’ band Manassas in 1972.
Recent Political Engagements
Young’s live appearances have gained attention not just for their nostalgia, but also for their political engagement. Earlier this month, he joined Joan Baez and Maggie Rogers at a rally for Senator Bernie Sanders. The event, held at Los Angeles’ Grand Park, featured a performance of “Rockin’ in the Free World” and aimed at promoting grassroots political reform.
During this concert, he opened with “Rainbow of Colors” from his 2019 album Colorado, creating a powerful atmosphere as he was joined by Baez and Rogers to lead chants of “Power to the people.”
Setting the Stage for a World Tour
As Young continues to premiere new material, he is also gearing up for a world tour with his newly formed band, Chrome Hearts. Details about their first project are still under wraps, but “Let’s Roll Again” indicates that fans can expect fresh contributions from the iconic artist.
