Hardcore band Pig Pen, initiated by Matty Matheson of the acclaimed show “The Bear,” has officially launched their first single titled “Mental Mentality.” The track, designed to energize mosh pits, is set to appear on their debut album, Mental Madness, which will be released this summer.

The eagerly anticipated Mental Madness is slated for release on June 27, under Flatspot Records, a label known for representing notable bands within the hardcore genre, such as Speed, Scowl, and End It. The album was crafted over a concentrated two-day session in 2022, encompassing one day for writing and another for recording in the studio.

In addressing the themes of the album, Matheson remarked on the nuances of mental health, stating that it explores “mental health shit” and “letting your mind destroy you.” He elaborated: “You can be having a beautiful day, surrounded by friends, and your brain can continuously ruin it. No matter how good or bad your life is, you can still hate yourself. I’ve got to ask myself why am I feeling the ways I’m feeling?”
