Isabel May Set to Star in ‘Mr. Irrelevant’: A Heartfelt NFL Story
Collaboration on a Unique NFL Narrative
Isabel May, known for her significant role in the Paramount+ series 1885, is reportedly in talks to feature alongside David Corenswet in the upcoming film, Mr. Irrelevant. This project, produced by Skydance Sports, explores the remarkable journey of John Tuggle, who became famously known as the last pick of the 1983 NFL Draft.
Behind the Scenes: Directors and Writers
The film will be directed by Jonathan Levine, who is partnered with Emmy-nominated writer Nick Santora to craft the screenplay. Production will be a collaborative effort, with Levine and Gillian Bohrer joining Santora, who will produce under his Blackjack Films label.
The Legacy of ‘Mr. Irrelevant’
The term ‘Mr. Irrelevant’ was coined in 1976 during the NFL Draft, starting with USC receiver Paul Salata. It has become a celebrated tradition, involving activities known as ‘Irrelevant Week,’ which honors the less-fortunate draft picks. Although some players like Brock Purdy have turned their Irrelevant status into a success story—leading the San Francisco 49ers to the Super Bowl after the 2023 season—Tuggle’s narrative presents a different yet equally compelling saga of persistence and impact.
Isabel May’s Rising Stardom
May garnered widespread recognition for her performance in 1885, sharing the screen with notable actors such as Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, and Sam Elliott. Her portrayal resonated with audiences and prompted interest from major studios. Currently, she is also set to appear as Sidney Prescott’s daughter in the highly anticipated Scream 7.
Isabel May is represented by CAA and Principal Entertainment LA.
