Global Constellation Unveils WWII Drama ‘Crux’ at Cannes

Global Constellation, a newly formed international sales entity born from the merger of Film Constellation and Global Screen, has announced its first feature film acquisition as the Cannes Film Festival’s Marché du Film kicks off.

A Strategic Acquisition

In a significant step to enhance its European market presence, Vuelta Group, the parent company of Global Constellation, has secured both German distribution and international sales rights for the upcoming World War II drama, Crux, directed by Ulrike Tony Vahl. This acquisition exemplifies the coordinated efforts between Vuelta Germany and Global Constellation, both of which operate under the Playtime banner.

Film Overview

Currently in production, Crux is aimed for delivery in Q2 or Q3 of 2026, making its market debut to buyers at the Cannes festival this week. An exclusive still from the film has also been released, showcasing a narrative that profoundly explores the theme of morality amidst the chaos of war.

Plot Synopsis

Set in a German village at the twilight of World War II, the film follows characters Greta, Anni, and their fellow villagers as they struggle to maintain normalcy amid turmoil. The discovery of unidentified corpses along the river disrupts their precarious existence, escalating into widespread panic and a harrowing decree: “No living Germans shall remain for the Russians to find.” The film poses critical questions about survival and humanity in times of despair.

The film features a talented cast, including:

  • Jella Haase (known for Berlin Alexanderplatz and Netflix’s KLEO)
  • Frida-Lovisa Hamann (from Enfant Terrible)
  • Clemens Schick (appeared in Die Ermittlung)

Produced by Martina Haubrich’s Cala Film and Ewa Puszczynska’s Extreme Emotions, Crux also benefits from a distinguished production team, including:

  • Production Designer: Katarzyna ‘Kasia’ Sikora
  • Costume Designer: Aleksandra ‘Ola Staszko’
  • Make-Up Designer: Jana Lindner

  • Composer: Lorenz Dangel

Funding and Support

Crux has received financial backing from a variety of film funds, including Germany’s BKM, FFA, DFFF, MDM, FF MV, MBB, and Euroimage, as well as support from the Polish Film Institute.

Director’s Vision

This film marks Ulrike Vahl’s feature directorial debut, building on her reputation from acclaimed short films like Gömböc and Below Zero. Global Constellation CEO Fabien Westerhoff stated, “With Crux, Ulrike Vahl delivers an unflinching and profoundly human portrait of a community at its breaking point… We’re proud to launch it at Cannes and bring this powerful story to distributors worldwide.”

Looking Ahead

The producers expressed enthusiasm about collaborating with Global Constellation and Vuelta Germany to share this urgent narrative with a broad audience. Thomas Sierk, Director of Sales & Acquisitions at Vuelta Germany, indicated that this acquisition represents a transformative period for the company, positioning it for enhanced synergy within the market.
