Fyre Fest 2: McFarland Addresses Local Government’s Registration Denial
Billy McFarland, the organizer behind the controversial Fyre Festival, has denied recent claims by officials from Playa Del Carmen regarding the lack of registration for his upcoming event. The statements were made public on a Friday, shortly after local authorities expressed doubts about the festival’s organization, stating, “no registration exists.”
McFarland’s Response
In response to the government’s assertions, McFarland maintained that he has the necessary documentation prepared for the festival, scheduled to take place next month. He emphasized that Fyre has been collaborating with Playa Del Carmen officials since March 5, 2025, to ensure the event proceeds smoothly.
“Fyre has been working directly with the government of Playa Del Carmen (PDC) and their officials since March 5, 2025 to ensure a safe and successful event,” said McFarland.
He further argued that media reports casting doubt on these collaborations were misleading and based on incorrect information.
Claims of Collaboration and Documentation
McFarland asserted that Fyre has been a reliable partner to the Playa Del Carmen government, adhering to necessary processes to lawfully host the event. To substantiate his claims, he posted alleged emails and documentation from Playa Del Carmen officials along with screenshots of social media references to Fyre Fest 2.
Local Government’s Skepticism
Earlier the same day, government representatives from Playa Del Carmen formally denied any knowledge of the Fyre Fest 2 event, reinforcing their position merely weeks after a similar statement from Isla Mujeres, another city touted as a potential host. In an official declaration, the Quintana Roo government noted:
“Neither this event nor any event with its name will occur in our city… we can confirm that there have been no registrations, planning, or conditions to indicate that this will happen in our municipality.”
Event Details and Promotion
Despite the governmental pushback, McFarland is moving forward with plans for Fyre Fest 2, claiming that tickets for the event, set for May 30 to June 2, would start at approximately $1,400. Reflecting on his decision to launch the festival anew, he stated:
“I’m sure many people think I’m crazy for doing this again. But I feel I’d be crazy not to do it again. After years of reflection and now thoughtful planning, the new team and I have amazing plans for Fyre 2.”
Guest Attendance and Lineup
Earlier in the week, McFarland indicated that approximately 1,800 attendees have already confirmed their participation. He hinted at a diverse lineup featuring artists from various fields including music and entertainment, though he withheld specific names from the announcement.
Background of Billy McFarland
Billy McFarland’s return to event planning comes after a significant legal battle related to the first Fyre Festival, which ended in chaos and resulted in his conviction on fraud charges. He was released from prison in 2022 after completing close to four years of his sentence.
