Major Wins of the Night

The 12th edition of the Platino Awards, held in Madrid, spotlighted excellence in Ibero-American film and television. The ceremony featured significant accolades for the Oscar-winning Brazilian film I’m Still Here, directed by Walter Salles, and actress Fernanda Torres. Notably, both Salles and Torres were absent from the event.

Additionally, Netflix’s adaptation of Gabriel García Márquez’s One Hundred Years of Solitude received considerable recognition, winning three awards including Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor, alongside Best Television Series overall.

Other Recognitions and Awards

Among the distinguished works honored was Pedro Almodóvar’s The Room Next Door, which secured awards for Best Original Score and Best Cinematography. The event also followed the earlier Goya awards ceremony in February, where similar projects were celebrated.

Platinum of Honor Award

A highlight of the evening was Eva Longoria receiving the Platinum of Honor Award, recognizing her as a prominent figure of Latin excellence in Hollywood. Her acceptance speech was met with enthusiastic applause, further enhanced by a surprise appearance from her colleague Sofía Vergara.

“I was born in Texas, I’m Mexican American, I carry Spanish blood in my veins, specifically from Asturias,” Longoria stated. “My soul is Mexican, I love the connection between Mexico and Spain; it’s a very special sisterhood that can be felt in every corner of this room. Since I began my career in Hollywood in ’98, I’ve had the dream of proudly representing my roots and honoring Hispanic women in particular.”
