Multidisciplinary artist Astrid C. transforms personal adversity into powerful paintings that explore resilience, identity, and modern womanhood.

Some artists learn technique before finding their voice. Others spend years searching for a subject worth dedicating their lives to. For Astrid C., life itself became the canvas.

Born in Paris and raised amid the uncertainty of war in Beirut, Astrid C experienced displacement, instability, and loss from an early age. Running away from cities under bombardment. Changing homes to get shelter. Daily life unfolded against a backdrop of conflict that shaped generations. Yet within that reality, she witnessed something remarkable: the quiet resilience of women who continued caring for families, rebuilding lives, and moving forward when circumstances seemed impossible.

Those observations would eventually become the foundation of her artistic identity.

Today, Astrid C is a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores the emotional complexity of contemporary womanhood. Through vivid portraits, expressive color palettes, and deeply personal symbolism, she creates paintings that resonate far beyond their visual beauty. Her work invites viewers to look beyond appearances and recognize the strength, vulnerability, and humanity that often remain unseen.

From Advertising Excellence To Artistic Reinvention

Before establishing herself as a painter, Astrid C built an impressive career in visual communication.

After earning a master’s degree in advertising from the Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts, where she graduated at the top of her class, she began working as an art director at Impact BBDO Beirut. Her creative ambitions soon led her to establish Spades, a photography, casting, and production agency that served major brands and agencies across the region.

Over fifteen years, she collaborated with renowned organizations including BBDO, Saatchi & Saatchi, and Memac Ogilvy while producing campaigns for brands such as Tabbah Jewelry, Nissan, Patchi, GS Magazine, and Christelle Atallah.

Her work earned industry recognition, including the Pan Arab Web Golden Award in 2008 for the Spades Casting website.

Yet despite professional success, life would present challenges that no career achievement could shield her from.

When Life Changes The Artist

A series of personal and national crises altered the course of Astrid C’s life.

A heartbreaking separation, Lebanon’s financial collapse, the global pandemic, and the devastating Beirut port explosion of 2020 arrived in rapid succession. The explosion shattered every window in her home while her children narrowly escaped the tragedy.

Like countless women around the world, she found herself rebuilding while carrying responsibilities that often go unnoticed.

Rather than retreating from those experiences, she transformed them into creative fuel.

Painting became more than artistic expression. It became a way to process, document, and communicate realities that many women silently carry every day.

In October 2024, following another period of regional conflict, Astrid C moved to France with her two children and began rebuilding her life once again. This new chapter marked not only a geographical transition but also a creative breakthrough.

Her paintings became increasingly focused on female resilience, emotional depth, and the duality of modern womanhood.

The Meaning Behind The Crowned Series

One of Astrid C’s most compelling bodies of work is the Crowned series.

At first glance, the portraits appear vibrant, radiant, and celebratory. Women emerge from explosions of color adorned with flowers that symbolize growth, renewal, and vitality.

Yet the true emotional power of the series lies in the contrast.

Behind the vibrant colors, viewers encounter thoughtful gazes, traces of exhaustion, quiet sadness, and emotional complexity. The paintings reflect the reality many women experience daily. They are expected to be strong, successful, nurturing, organized, and composed, often while carrying invisible burdens.

The flowers symbolize recognition and beauty. The eyes tell another story.

Drips, splashes, and flowing paint extend beyond traditional boundaries, representing emotional release and personal freedom. Through this visual language, Astrid C challenges expectations and invites viewers to reconsider how strength is perceived.

Each large scale canvas begins with extensive conceptual development. The artist mentally constructs each portrait, develops preliminary sketches, selects symbolic colors, and then spends between sixty and ninety hours bringing the final work to life.

The result is art that feels deeply personal while remaining universally relatable.

Recognition Arrives Early

Astrid C’s transition from photography to painting has already attracted significant attention.

At her very first exhibition, her painting Dilemma won the First Prize at the Arts au Jardin Festival in Le Vésinet in May 2026. The recognition highlighted not only technical skill but also the emotional connection audiences felt with her work.

Further recognition followed when her series Justice is Blind was selected for the international exhibition Building Peace, scheduled to take place at the Collégiale de Chartres in March 2027.

These achievements suggest that Astrid C’s message resonates far beyond her personal story.

The themes she explores, resilience, identity, motherhood, loss, and renewal, are experiences shared by countless people across cultures and generations.

As her audience continues to grow, so does the impact of her work.

As Astrid C explains:

“Every piece of art tells a story: sometimes shouted, sometimes whispered, but always deeply felt.”

That philosophy is visible in every canvas she creates.
