Ridley Scott has announced that the Bee Gees biopic he was set to direct for Paramount Pictures has been postponed. Originally scheduled to begin filming soon, the project faced delays after the studio decided to pursue another film instead, which Scott described as a change in the agreed terms of the deal.
In a conversation with GQ, Scott expressed his frustrations, stating that he felt the studio’s actions were unreasonable. He indicated that he had warned the studio they could not shift the terms without consequences, and ultimately chose to walk away from the project when an agreement could not be reached.
Despite the setback with the Bee Gees film, Scott is moving forward with another project titled “The Dog Stars,” which is set to start filming in April. The planned Bee Gees biopic, tentatively titled “You Should Be Dancing,” is expected to be released in September. Scott has shared that the film will focus on the intense competition among the band members, highlighting their working-class background and the impact of loss, particularly referencing Andy Gibb’s tragic passing at a young age.
In addition to his work on the biopic, Scott’s latest film, “Gladiator II,” is scheduled for a November 2024 release. The sequel features an impressive cast, including Paul Mescal and Denzel Washington, and has been both directed and produced by Scott.
