EXCLUSIVE: Greenwich Entertainment has acquired North American distribution rights to Went Up the Hill, directed by Samuel Van Grinsven (The Blue Room).
The POP Film and Causeway Films production stars Vicki Krieps (Phantom Thread) and Dacre Montgomery (Stranger Things).
Pic will have its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and will open in theaters in Greenwich next summer.
The synopsis is as follows. “Abandoned as a child, Jack (Dacre Montgomery) travels to rural New Zealand to attend the funeral of his estranged mother Elizabeth. There he meets Jill, a widow with questions of her own. (Vicky Krieps). Later that night, Elizabeth returns and possesses Jack and Jill, using their bodies to talk to each other. Caught up in a deadly night dance, Jack and Jill catch Elizabeth before she can corner them. We have to find a way to break free.”
A psychological drama inspired by writer and director Samuel van Grinsven’s childhood memories on New Zealand’s South Island.
Went Up the Hill is produced by Vicki Pope, Samantha Jennings and Christina Seiton, with major production investment from the New Zealand Film Commission and Screen Australia, along with Screen Canterbury New Zealand and Create New South. Supported by Wales, Spectrum Films, Stage 23, RM Sound and Head Gear. Films, Vendetta Films, Fulcrum Media Finance and New Zealand Government Film Production Grants.
Greenwich’s Andy Bourne negotiated the acquisition with CAA Media Finance and Bankside Films on behalf of the filmmaker.
