Sony Production Vice President Palak Patel Leaves Studio

Palak Patel, who has been with Sony Pictures for a decade, is set to become the chief content officer at Prime Focus Studios, led by Namit Malhotra. During her time at Sony, Patel played a significant role in productions that included blockbuster successes such as the Venom series, which together grossed $1.8 billion globally, and the standalone film Morbius.

Patel began her career at Sony in August 2015 during a restructuring led by Chairman Tom Rothman. Before joining Sony, she was the head of production at Roth Films, working on popular titles such as Snow White and the Huntsman, and Oz: The Great and Powerful. She also served as an executive producer on significant projects like Maleficent and The Gray Man, which has become one of Netflix’s most-watched movies.

Prime Focus Studios, which Patel is joining, has been involved in notable productions, including The Garfield Movie, which earned over $257 million worldwide. The studio is currently developing a range of upcoming projects, including Animal Friends, The Angry Birds Movie 3, and Ramayana. Founded by DNEG CEO Malhotra, Prime Focus Studios collaborates with both major and independent studios for film and television content.

Sony Pictures recently celebrated a successful year at the box office, generating $1 billion in domestic revenue, highlighted by strong earnings from the Venom series, with the latest installment, Venom: The Last Dance, grossing more than $476 million worldwide.
