British rapper Slowthai, whose real name is Tyrone Frampton, has been acquitted of three counts of rape, as reported by the BBC. The case was brought to court in Oxford, where both Slowthai and his co-defendant, Alex Blake Walker, faced allegations of assaulting two women following a performance in September 2021. The jury found both men not guilty of the charges stemming from an incident that took place after receiving VIP access to a party.
Prosecutors argued that the women had met Slowthai before the show and invited him to a gathering where the alleged attacks occurred. They claimed that Slowthai raped one woman twice and urged Walker to assault another. In his defense, Slowthai and Walker both asserted that any sexual activities were consensual. Slowthai emphasized in court that he was confident in the mutual consent involved.
Slowthai’s lawyer, Patrick Gibbs, highlighted the distinction between youthful behavior and coercive actions, asserting that there was a significant difference between being immature and imposing on someone without consent. Following the trial, Gibbs indicated that Slowthai’s legal battles may not end here, as he mentioned potential implications for his future.
Representatives for Slowthai have been approached for further comment on the verdict.
