Universal and DreamWorks Animation’s animated film “The Wild Robot,” derived from Peter Brown’s New York Times bestselling book, will start streaming on Peacock on January 24th. Since its September release, the film has achieved significant commercial success, earning over $324 million globally. It is currently available for rental or purchase on various video-on-demand platforms, including Prime Video and Apple TV.
Directed by Chris Sanders, the film features Lupita Nyong’o as Roz, a robot who ends up stranded on a deserted island and must learn to adapt to its challenging environment. Throughout her journey, Roz builds connections with the local animal inhabitants, including a thoughtful fox voiced by Pedro Pascal, and becomes a nurturing figure for an orphaned cub named Brightbill, voiced by Kit Connor. The voice cast also includes notable actors like Bill Nighy, Stephanie Hsu, Mark Hamill, Catherine O’Hara, Matt Berry, and Ving Rhames.
There are plans for a sequel to “The Wild Robot,” as confirmed by Sanders in an earlier announcement. This film serves as the first installment in a trilogy based on Brown’s work, with “The Wild Robot Escapes” being the second book in the series. Sanders, a three-time Oscar nominee, is also recognized for his work on acclaimed animations such as “How to Train Your Dragon” and “Lilo & Stitch.” Executive producer Dean DeBlois and co-producer Heather Lanza are also involved in the project.
