Millie Bobby Brown Discusses Appearance Scrutiny on Call Her Daddy

In a revealing conversation with Alex Cooper on the podcast Call Her Daddy, actress Millie Bobby Brown addressed the challenges she faces regarding public scrutiny of her appearance. This discussion follows her recent appearances on the red carpet, where she has faced comments about looking older than her age.

The Impact of Criticism

At 21 years old, Brown responded to negative remarks, stating, “A thing that I get a lot is like, ‘Oh, my God, she looks like 40.’” She acknowledged that having been introduced to the public at the age of 10, her appearance naturally evolved over the years. “It’s been 10 years. She grows. My face, like, grew. What do you want me to do about that?” she added, highlighting the unrealistic expectations placed on her by some observers.

A Shift in Perspective

Despite the criticism she has received, Brown emphasized that such negativity does not affect her as it once did. “I wish I could be like, ‘You know what? It does get to me.’ It used to get to me — it did. And I remember trying to change myself to please the masses,” she reflected. As she matures, her acceptance of herself has deepened. She stated, “Yeah, my accent does change. My face does grow. I do wear a lot of makeup. It’s just the kind of person I am.”

Advocating for Change

Brown articulated her wish for a world where such scrutiny of women is no longer accepted. She remarked, “If I had a genie wish, I really would wish that no one ever had to go through that kind of scrutiny because it changes the kind of person you are.” The actress emphasized how constant negative feedback can distort one’s worldview, leading to doubt and mistrust in others.

Upcoming Projects

Looking ahead, fans can anticipate Brown’s performance alongside Chris Pratt in the upcoming film The Electric State. Additionally, she is set to reprise her role in the final season of Stranger Things, which will debut on Netflix later this year.
