Former Motörhead drummer Mickey Dee recently shared his experience with a serious health scare, revealing that he was diagnosed with sepsis during the holiday season. He took to social media to inform fans about his hospitalization due to a significant blood infection, expressing gratitude for the care he received at Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg, Sweden.
Dee detailed his ordeal, mentioning that he spent three weeks in the hospital and underwent multiple surgeries. He described how what began as a simple ankle injury escalated dramatically, leading to severe swelling and pain that necessitated emergency medical attention. Doctors identified that he had dead, infected tissue that required surgical removal.
Despite the challenges, Dee reported that he is now recovering at home, with his health indicators improving following treatment. He acknowledged the medical staff’s exceptional care during this trying time and confirmed that more rehabilitation lies ahead for him.
This health incident coincides with a reflection on Dee’s past, as it marks his first brush with death since the passing of his close friend and bandmate Lemmy Kilmister in 2015. Mickey Dee originally gained recognition as the drummer for the Danish band King Diamond before joining Motörhead, where he played until the band’s disbandment in 2015. He has since transitioned to playing with the German rock band Scorpions.
