Danish producer Kim Magnusson has joined the production team for the Oscar-nominated short film “I’m Not a Robot,” directed by Dutch filmmaker Viktoria Walmerdam. Magnusson aims to assist in adapting the project into a feature film. The short has gained significant recognition, including Best Short Film at the 2023 Sitges Film Festival, and has been featured in over 100 film festivals globally.
Eric Martin, known for his work as head writer and executive producer on “Loki” season 2, is producing the short through Rearview Pictures, collaborating with Trent from OAK Motion Pictures and co-producer Tobias Weimar.
The short follows a music producer named Lara, who struggles with a routine CAPTCHA test that leads to existential questions about her identity, humorously exploring themes of technology and self-awareness. The feature adaptation aims to delve deeper into these themes while maintaining the short’s dark comedic tone. The project is backed by various organizations, including the Dutch Film Fund and TorinoFilmLab.
Magnusson, who has won multiple Academy Awards, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, highlighting the unique blend of humor and social commentary in the story. He believes that the project will benefit from the combination of his experience and the creative vision of Walmerdam and the OAK Motion Pictures team.
