Veteran electronic producer Fatboy Slim, known as Norman Cooke, has stated that fans should not expect new music from him in the near future. Over the past few years, his focus has shifted primarily toward live performances rather than creating new tracks. While he remains active in live shows, he has not released many new songs, and his last studio album was “Palookaville,” released in 2004.
Cooke began his music career in the 1980s with the indie rock band The Housemartins and later gained fame as an electronic producer. His breakthrough album, “You’ve Come a Long Way, Baby,” was released in 1998 and achieved substantial success, including a spot on the Billboard 200. However, he has remained largely absent from the charts since then.
In 2024, Cooke released two singles, “Role Model” and “Bus Stop Please,” marking his first new music since 2022. He has expressed that these tracks emerged from his live performances rather than a desire for new creative work. Cooke noted that he has struggled with a waning passion for producing music, stating that true musical creation requires a deep enthusiasm that he currently lacks.
Additionally, he has reflected on his music-making process, indicating that he has felt more engaged with DJing than with producing new songs. His past collaboration with David Byrne on the project “Here Lies Love” in 2010 stands out as a significant work during his hiatus from full-length albums. Despite this, Cooke continues to prioritize live performances, hoping that his creative passion may return in the future.
