For me, it was a normal thing that meant a lot of work, family bringing each other a plate of food to the field at 10pm and eating it quickly so the work could continue. As I have gotten older I realize that experience is exactly the same for the locals when I go to a new place. The people walking around Prague are used to seeing the pretty bridges every day and it means dodging tourists. A local market in Vietnam is nothing special for the people who are there every day. But not being accustomed to those things makes them new for me, and I want to capture them with a perspective the locals might take for granted. One of the biggest compliments for me is when a local sees a photo of something they see regularly and say they never had seen the subject that way. That is the benefit of seeing the world with new eyes.”
