In 2024, Dean Blunt, Elias Rønnenfelt, and Vegyn have made significant strides in their musical careers. Blunt, known for his nostalgic connections to 90s music, particularly the Cocteau Twins, has maintained his status as a favorite among younger audiences. His 2020 track “9,” featuring Zushi’s Panda Bear, gained moderate popularity. Rønnenfelt, who transitioned from frontman of Ice Age to exploring an Americana-inspired sound, and Vegyn, an experimental electronic artist, have released solo albums showcasing their unique styles.
The three artists have collaborated once again for Blunt’s new EP titled “lucre,” which was released exclusively on YouTube on January 1st. Their recent partnerships include working together on “Repeat Offenders” from Rønnenfelt’s album “Backstage Raver” and “DOWNER,” featuring Panda Bear, from Vegyn’s album. Though these works remain notable, “lucre” captures a broader view of British independent music over the years, a theme familiar to Blunt but presented with renewed energy through sharper production and deeper exploration of sound.
Spanning 16 minutes and structured as a single track, the EP offers listeners a glimpse into the exciting potential of their creative collaboration, suggesting there is much more to uncover from this trio’s work.
