Glen Powell has been cast as the lead in the upcoming film adaptation of “The Running Man,” directed by Edgar Wright, with Paramount Pictures confirming that Colman Domingo will host the show within the film. This adaptation is based on the novel by Stephen King, which King originally published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman.
The cast also includes Karl Glusman, Katie O’Brian, and Daniel Ezra, and the film is scheduled for release on November 7, 2025. Wright co-wrote the screenplay with Michael Bacall and will produce the film alongside Nira Park and Simon Kinberg, with George Linder as executive producer.
The original story follows Ben Richards, a desperate man who enters a dangerous reality show called “The Running Man” to earn money for his ill daughter. This violent competition occurs in a dystopian version of America in the year 2025, where Richards is pursued by hunters who aim to kill him.
In this new adaptation, the role of the game show executive is being considered for Domingo, who is expected to take on a more central villainous role compared to the original film. The character’s significance may shift from that of a mere game show host to a more prominent antagonist.
Domingo, an Oscar-nominated actor known for his roles in “Rustin'” and the Emmy-winning series “Euphoria,” has enjoyed a fruitful year, including accolades for his performance in the film “Sing Sing” and a recent role in Netflix’s “The Madness.” He is also set to appear in an upcoming Steven Spielberg film and is represented by WME.
